What is linezolid?
Linezolid is an antibiotic that fights bacteria in the body.
Tell your doctor if you have ever had:
high blood pressure;
a thyroid disorder;
a carcinoid tumor;
bone marrow suppression or a weak immune system;
kidney or liver disease;
pheochromocytoma (adrenal gland tumor);
diabetes;
seizures; or
if you use a catheter.
What happens if I miss a dose?
Do not use two doses at one time.
Linezolid side effects
Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction (hives, difficult breathing, swelling in your face or throat) or a severe skin reaction (fever, sore throat, burning eyes, skin pain, red or purple skin rash with blistering and peeling).
vision problems, changes in color vision;
a seizure;
sweating, feeling anxious or shaky (may be signs of low blood sugar);
lactic acidosis–unusual muscle pain, trouble breathing, stomach pain, vomiting, irregular heart rate, dizziness, feeling cold, or feeling very weak or tired; or
low blood cell counts–fever, chills, tiredness, weakness, confusion, mouth sores, skin sores, easy bruising, unusual bleeding, pale skin, cold hands and feet, feeling light-headed or short of breath.
What should I avoid while using linezolid?
Avoid taking anti-diarrhea medicine without first asking your doctor. Diarrhea may be a sign of a new infection.
aged cheeses or meats;
pickled or fermented meats, smoked or air-dried meats;
sauerkraut;
soy sauce;
tap beer (alcoholic and nonalcoholic);
red wine; or
any meat, cheese, or other protein-based food that has been improperly store
