Ethamsylate Injection (Insylate)

Ethamsylate is used to prevent or control abnormal bleeding in conditions like periods and dysfunctional uterine bleeding (any bleeding from the vagina that varies from a woman’s normal menstrual cycle). It may also be used to prevent or reduce bleeding before, during or after delicate surgeries. Ethamsylate normalizes the blood vessel walls and increases platelet count at the bleeding site. It acts by increasing the ability of platelets to stick together and helps in the formation of blood clots. Ethamsylate shows some side effects like skin rash, vomiting, nausea, and headache. However, Ethamsylate injection may show side effects like injection site pain and redness. Usually, these side effects get resolved with time. However, consult your doctor if any of these effects persist for a long time or worsen. Ethamsylate should be avoided if you have medical conditions like porphyria (a rare genetic disorder of the blood characterized by a defect in the synthesis of haemoglobin), fibroids (abnormal growth in the uterus), etc. Ethamsylate tablet can be taken with or without food. Ethamsylate injection should be administered in a hospital setting by specialized healthcare professionals. You will be monitored carefully to check whether or not this medicine causes any allergic reaction.
